Animals are an amazing part of our lives, as are other companions in many forms.  From dogs and cats to horses to birds to reptiles to amphibians, and even insects and arachnids, we care about our companion friends.  An oil painting of your companion(s) provides you with a way to capture a point in time that will memorialize that special time.  And, an oil painting can create a wonderful gift or family heirloom.

 Like my people portraits, I ask for a high-quality photo to identify the desired pose.  I also need several additional photos to gain an overall impression of a subject.  Each subject is painted with multiple layers with base colors and successive translucent layers or additional colors to provide depth and dimensionality.   I like to paint in convincing detail that sometimes requires painting with a magnifying glass and a paintbrush with just a few bristles.   It takes about 6 weeks to paint a portrait, due to the multiple layers and drying times.  At completion, I coat the painting with a UV varnish to help preserve the image.  Paintings can have a museum wrap or in a standard thickness, ready for you to frame.
