Charles Anderson Edward "Chuck" Berry was a St. Louis native who internalized country, blues and R&B influences to create a unique guitar technique. His guitar skills, stage presence, and moves gave voice that crossed the race barriers of the day and opened the door for rock & roll. Chuck Berry received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 1985; and in 1986 he became the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame's first inductee.
