Franklin Delano Roosevelt

from $175.00

This painting is in the "Portraits of Influence" series. Franklin Delano Roosevelt (FDR) was born January 30, 1882, Hyde Park, New York. He was Theodore Roosevelt’s fifth cousin; and he is the only president elected to the office four time. Roosevelt led the United States through two of the greatest crises of the 20th century: the Great Depression and World War II. He used radio to speak directly to the American people, giving 30 "fireside chat" radio addresses during his presidency and became the first American president to be televised. A notable achievement was the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) which provided deposit insurance to protect bank depositors from losses caused by a bank’s inability to pay its debts when due. He also created the New Deal that produced the Federal Emergency Relief Administration (FERA), the Social Security Act, the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), the Agricultural Adjustment Administration (AAA), the Public Works Administration (PWA), and the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA), National minimum wage, a forty-hour work week, and he took federal action to prohibit employment discrimination. FDR played a role in the creation of the united nations; and Roosevelt He also initiated the development of the world's first atomic bomb. On the afternoon of April 12, while sitting for a portrait, he suffered a massive cerebral hemorrhage, and he died a few hours later.
