Ulysses Grant

from $175.00

This painting is in the "Portraits of Influence" series. Hiram Ulysses Grant was born in Point Pleasant, Ohio April 27, 1822. Grant was the United States' first four-star general. In March 1864, President Lincoln elevated Grant to the newly revived rank of lieutenant-general and placed him in supreme command of all Union forces. Grant's aggressive strategy of attrition culminated in the fall of Petersburg and Richmond and the surrender of Lee’s badly depleted forces at Appomattox Court House in April 1865 - thus, ending the Civil War. During his presidency, Grant signed legislation authorizing the National Weather Service, Yellowstone National Park, and the Department of Justice.
