Walt Disney

from $175.00

Walter Elias Disney was born on December 5, 1901 in Chicago, Illinois. He had early interest in drawing, took drawing and photography classes in high school and courses at the Chicago Art Institute. Known for creating Mickey Mouse in 1928, Disney also introduced synchronized sound, full-color three-strip Technicolor, feature-length cartoons and technical developments in cameras. Following his cartoon full length feature success, Disney was able to leverage his vision to create Disneyland, a $17 million theme park which opened on July 17, 1955, in Anaheim, California. Ronald Reagan presided over the opening. A few years after Disneyland opened, Disney began plans for a new theme park and to develop Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow (EPCOT) in Florida. It was still under construction when, in 1966, Disney was diagnosed with lung cancer. Over his career, Disney won 26 Academy Awards - 22 competitive and 4 honorary, 3 Golden Globe Awards, and 1 Emmy Award. He died December 15, 1966 at the age of 65. The background of this painting emphasizes two Disney characters.
