In the early 1920s, houses were built along Cypress Street in Orange to support the thriving citrus industry. Their location - close to the Atchison, Topeka, and Santa Fe Railroad line - made it easy to ship fruit nationwide. These homes became the heart of our community, as citrus workers from Mexico’s central plateau settled there to be near their work.
Emigdio captured that community in Sunset on Cypress Street, preserving the humble worker homes just before they were lost to urban revitalization. Anchoring the scene is a 1954 Chevrolet 2-door sedan - a quiet, familiar marker of the era.
